Water Desalination Plant
97% of Gaza’s water is undrinkable.
Wracked by large-scale population displacement, shortages of water and electricity, environmental health hazards, and more, the people of Gaza depend on aid to survive.
Gaza's only natural source of water, the coastal aquifer, suffers from over-extraction, salinity intrusion and sewage intrusion, making it largely unfit for human consumption. It is estimated about one-quarter of disease spread in Gaza is caused by water pollution, with 12% of the deaths of young children related to contaminated water. Many Palestinians suffer health complications as a result, including renal failure, fatal diarrhoea and dehydration. About 50% of Gaza’s children suffer from water-related infections.
Access to water is a basic human right, and yet in Palestine, a staggering 97% of water is undrinkable.
In Gaza, there are 672 educational facilities without access to decent wash facilities or any ongoing source of clean water.
