Opposing the Propaganda & Misinformation Campaign Against Syria

Opposing the Propaganda & Misinformation Campaign Against Syria

 10.03.2025

Human Aid & Advocacy opposes the ongoing propaganda and misinformation campaign aimed at undermining Syria’s sovereignty and security. After decades of brutal oppression under Bashar al-Assad’s dictatorship, Syrians have endured immense hardship in their pursuit of freedom, justice, and dignity. Yet, efforts to distort the truth and destabilise the country persist.

For over a decade, Human Aid & Advocacy has been on the ground, providing aid to internally displaced Syrians and refugees. We have witnessed first hand the devastating impact of Assad’s war, marked by massacres, displacement, and immense suffering. To this day, Syrians continue to grapple with the trauma and destruction inflicted by his regime.

On March 6th, former Assad regime militants who had been granted amnesty carried out a deadly attack in Latakia province, killing at least 16 Syrian security personnel. This event highlights the ongoing security threats posed by remnants of the Assad regime, who continue to endanger efforts toward peace and stability in Syria.

In response, foreign actors with vested geopolitical interests, alongside Assad loyalists and various factions have reignited a disinformation campaign aimed at keeping Syria in a state of turmoil. These groups, including some self-proclaimed ‘anti-imperialists,’ have spread false narratives about Syria’s evolving political landscape, misrepresenting realities on the ground to sow division and confusion.

One of their tactics includes resurfacing unrelated, outdated videos to spread fear and misinformation, a strategy long used to vilify Muslims and mischaracterise governance in the region. Claims that minority communities face persecution have been contradicted by testimonies from Syrians themselves, many of whom have expressed hope for a future free from Assad’s tyranny.

It is clear that these disinformation efforts seek not only to undermine Syria’s progress but to dehumanise its people. Across the Muslim world, foreign powers have historically worked to destabilise sovereign nations for their own geo-political gain, Syria is no exception.

To those advocating for the return of Assad, whose rule led to the deaths of over half a million Syrians and the displacement of millions more, we stand firmly against any attempt to whitewash his crimes.

To our Syrian brothers and sisters, who have endured unimaginable hardship yet continue to stand with resilience and hope, we stand with you. Our commitment remains unwavering in supporting Syria’s recovery and ensuring its people can finally build a future of peace and dignity.
